Avatar System Detects and Mimics Human Facial Expressions!

Led by Associate Professor Yasue Mitsukura, a group from Keio University in Tokyo has developed a method to detect upper body movement and changes in facial expression. The YouTube video from DigInfo TV's channel has Koichi Takahashi from Keio University's Graduate School of Science and Technology explain the process and how it works.
This breakthrough may have a big impact on the anime and gaming industry in Japan today. The researchers believe that this system can be used in CG animation-making the characters more real and video games-allowing the game to detect and react to the changes in the faces of the players.
Would that be cool or just creepy?
